Fall wedding

While silver and gold metallic have been in style now for a few years, the more rustic but still polished copper is just starting to see a rise in popularity. This warmer, more subdued tone is perfect for an early autumnal wedding and looks positively regal when paired with a dusky shade of plum.

HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL NEED:
– Sewing machine
– Iron
– Fabric, preferably silk, satin, silk brocade shown here
– Pair of beautiful earrings (drop earrings by TenThings shown here)
– Custom card, 3” x 3.5” with a personal message
– Measuring tape or ruler
– Fabric scissors
– Sharp hole punch
– Coordinating satin ribbon
– Coordinating thread
– Fabric pen
– Bone folder
LET’S GET STARTED:
DIY Tutorial: Bridesmaids Jewelry Gift Set
1. To create a super luxurious fabric jewelry pouch, start off by laying your fabric on a flat surface with the wrong side facing up.
DIY Tutorial: Bridesmaids Jewelry Gift Set
2. Measure and mark two 7” tall by 6” wide rectangles. Cut.
DIY Tutorial: Bridesmaids Jewelry Gift Set
3. With the wrong side facing up, fold the top 1” down towards the center and iron flat. Repeat with the other rectangle.
DIY Tutorial: Bridesmaids Jewelry Gift Set
4. Sew a straight stitch about ¼” from the edge of your fold. Repeat with the other rectangle. This creates a channel for your ribbon.
DIY Tutorial: Bridesmaids Jewelry Gift Set
5. Pin both rectangles with their right-sides facing each other (so the wrong- sides are facing out).
DIY Tutorial: Bridesmaids Jewelry Gift Set
6. Sew both rectangles together with a straight stitch leaving a ¼” allowance. Start and end below the channel openings, being careful not to sew the channels or the top of the rectangles together.
DIY Tutorial: Bridesmaids Jewelry Gift Set
7. Cut the corners at a 45-degree angle (be careful not to cut your stitch).
DIY Tutorial: Bridesmaids Jewelry Gift Set
8. Turn your pouch inside out.
9. Use the bone folder (or any dull pointy object) to push out your corners.
DIY Tutorial: Bridesmaids Jewelry Gift Set
10. Iron your edges flat.
DIY Tutorial: Bridesmaids Jewelry Gift Set
11. Measure and cut two 18” lengths of ribbon.
DIY Tutorial: Bridesmaids Jewelry Gift Set
12. Feed one ribbon length through both channels. I started with the left side, made a U-turn through the right side and fed it back so both ends ended up on the left side.
DIY Tutorial: Bridesmaids Jewelry Gift Set
13. Feed the other ribbon length through both channels starting from the right side the same way as in step #12 so that both ends end up on the right side.
DIY Tutorial: Bridesmaids Jewelry Gift Set
14. Tie ends together.
DIY Tutorial: Bridesmaids Jewelry Gift Set
15. Using your sharp hole punch, punch two holes onto your pre-made card for your earrings. Feed your earring posts through these holes.

16. Insert jewelry card into your fabric pouch and impress your BFFs with an unexpected, handmade gift of gratitude!

A Wheat Wedding

Brides seeking a unique spin on a harvest themed wedding might consider sticking strictly to wheat. Wheat sheaths have a simple rustic appeal. Pair them with a color palette of chocolate brown and low-luster gold to reap the beautiful benefits of an autumn wedding.

Alice in Wonderland Party

Alice in Wonderland Party

Whether you're hosting a birthday party for someone who is turning 4 or 40, an Alice in Wonderland theme can make for a really enchanting party. It would also make another great Halloween party alternative.

Pumpkins, ghosts and goblins are all things one would expect to see a lot of during the month of October, but there are a multitude of other fine fall elements that often get overlooked in the quest to decorate for Halloween. For the next few Wednesdays, The Finer Things will be focusing on autumn entertaining ideas that are still seasonal, yet unique enough to set your party apart from the rest.

Grapes, for instance, tend to be thrown into the summer party spotlight. However, with the typical grape harvest time period in the northern hemisphere being between the months of August and October (with the grapes for some late harvest wines, like Reisling, harvested in mid to late autumn), this dazzling fruit is fabulously fit for a fall fete.

One of my favorite things about fall is the crisp contrast of gold and orange leaves against a vibrant blue sky.

To recreate the look of nature's bright and bold palette for your next autumn gathering , pair cobalt blue accents with pumpkins and other orange decor.
